Sri Lanka has been playing in the World Cup since 1975. In the first two editions, they had to qualify as they were a non-Test playing nation. From 1983, they were invited to play as they had acquired Test status by then.
They revolutionized the concept of the first 15 overs in One-Day Internationals. Earlier, teams used to play these overs very cautiously but they showed the world how to take advantage of the fielding restrictions. Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana became a household name with their display of aggressive batting.
The Sri Lankan side is on a roll lately. They played some good cricket in New Zealand and will also play a series against India in preparation for their World Cup campaign.
Mahela Jayawardene will lead them at the World Cup. The selectors have selected a 15-member squad for the World Cup. Here are the squad members:
