Buea Map



Lying on the Mount Cameroon, Buea is the capital of the country's southwest province. From 1901 to 1909, it was the colonial capital of the Germans. Later on, it was also the capital of the southern part of British Cameroons.

The climate of the city is generally humid. The people living in the higher altitudes experience cooler temperature and those in the lower areas enjoy hotter climate. Rainfall is very common in this part of the country. Incessant rainfall with fog is a common feature of the climate prevailing in this city.

Tea industry is one of the major industries in Buea. Tea production is higher in this part of the country, especially in the region of Tole. The city houses several colonial buildings of the German era. The University of Buea is also located in this town. It is the one and only Anglophone institution of Cameroon. The Nigerian Consulate is also situated in Buea.



The city is home to various ethnic groups like Tole, Miles and Bova. The native language of the people is Bakweri. Since it is the provincial capital of Cameroon, people of different religious sect reside here.
