Texas in USA is the second largest state both area and population wise. Texas has a population of about 22.5 million spread over an area of 267,338 sq. miles. Texas comes from 'taysha' or 'tejas' a Caddoan word for friends.
Texas in 1845 became the 28th US state. Austin is the capital city of this North American State. Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, are some of the impoertant cities in Texas.
Texas Geography
Texas lying in the South central part of USA has a coast with the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico lies to the south east of Texas. On the east it is bordered with Louisiana across the river Sabine. Texas has a small border with Arkansas in the east. Oklahoma forms the north and north eastern bordering state across the Red river. The state of New Mexico lies to the north west of Texas. The western and south western border of Texas geography is shared with Mexico.
Texas geography has three climate types. They are :
- Marine climate - The marine climate with pleasant summers and mild winters is experienced in the coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Storms, specially hurricanes often of a severe nature are common in the coastal areas. North of Brownsville.
- Mountain climate - West Texas has this type of climate. The days are clear and dry and the nights are cold.
- Continental climate - Greater portion of Texas experiences this climate type of hot summers and cold winters.
Texas History and People
Texas was a part of Mexico till 1835. From October 1835 to March 1836 a revolution by the Texans on Mexicans was termed the Texas war of Independence. The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed on 2nd March, 1836, and the Republic of Texas was formed.
>From 1836 to 1845 Texas remained an independent republic. In 1845, the united States Congress after debate and discussion passed a 'Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States' by a simple majority.
Texas Population comprises Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Native Americans, Japanese and Chinese people.
