About Texas Cities
There are three Texas cities that have populations of more than one million: San Antonio Houston and Dallas. These three rank among the 10 most populated cities in the United States. As of 2000, six cities in the state had populations of more than 500,000 people. Austin, Fort Worth, and El Paso are among the 25 largest U.S. cities. There are four metropolitan regions with populations of more than a million: Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, San Antonio-New Braunfels, and Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos.

Three interstate highways-I-45 to the east (Dallas to Houston), I-35 to the west (Dallas-Fort Worth to San Antonio with Austin in the middle), and I-10 to the south (San Antonio to Houston) delineate the Texas Urban Triangle zone. This zone covers 60,000 sq miles and is home to majority of the biggest cities in the state and 17 million residents, approximately 75% of the overall population of Texas. Both Houston and Dallas have been accredited as beta world cities.
