Ras-Al-Khaimah is popularly known as the ‘Wild West’ of the United Arab Emirates because it is both adventurous and fascinating. During the Ubaid period, which was about 5000-3800BC, Ras-Al -Khaimah was the focal point for other developing civilizations.

In early days the city was famous for its pearl-market but in the 20th Century it became major industrial region after the establishment of Saleh oil fields.

Ras Al Khaimah city is the capital of the emirate and is divided by Khour Ras Al Khaimah. The western portion of the city is called the Old Ras Al Khaimah. The Ras Al Khaimah Museum and few governmental departments are located in this portion of the city. On the eastern part is known as Al Nakheel, where lies the commercial companies, Ruler’s office and governmental departments. These two parts are linked by a huge bridge that has been constructed across Al Khour that allows traffic to flow between them.

The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has unique natural features like mountains that are 2000 meters of height, the fascinating wadis traverses through these mountains. They start from Wadi Buh, and then these steep valleys move towards Masafi and then towards other wadis like Assumes, Ghayl, Shawka, and many more. The tough and the rocky terrain is ideal for adventurous trekking.

Ras Al Khaimah is very famous for its adventurous sports and activities. The various pastimes activities performed in the region are water skiing, golf, camel racing, trekking etc. The hot springs of sulphuric water are the Khatts springs oasis is famous for relaxing and therapeutic properties. The Khatts Springs is a major tourist attraction and is known for the 170 archaeological sites and many tombs.
