Earlier Jubayl city of Saudi Arabia was a part of Eastern Province and was one of the main caravan junctions in the whole region. The city was famous for the pearls that were available in the sea bed. But due to its location near the oil fields, it was chosen as a site for setting up the world's largest petrochemical complex.
Today Jubayl in Saudi Arabia has 19 major factories and 136 ancillary units. These factories produce steel, aluminum, fertilizers, etc. The whole industrial area falls under the governance of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).

One must visit Al-Batwah Island near Jubayl as it has parks and zoos for public. Another place in Jubayl at Saudi Arabia that must be visited is the Picnic Zone, which offers playgrounds and arena for water sports. It covers a land area of 204 kilometers and lies in the west of the industrial zone.
