Hamadan

Hamadan is an Iranian city and is the capital of Hamadan Province. According to 2005 census report, Hamadan had an estimated population of around 550,284.

Hamadan is one among the oldest cities of Iran and is also one of the oldest city in the world.

Hamadan is a grassy hilly area located at the mountain top. It is being nestled in the mid west of Iran. This wonderful city of Iran is 1850 meters above sea level.

For a long time the historic sites are been drawing the attention of many tourists all over the world. During summer days most of the travelers comes here to explore the city. It is situated approximately 400km southwest of Tehran.

Hamadan was being established by the Medes and was the capital of the Median empire. Thereafter it became one of the many capital cities of the Achaemenid Dynasty.

Hamadan province is situated in a temperate mountainous region to the east of Zagros. It experiences strong winds throughout the year. The different types of air currents faced by this region have been enlisted below

North and north west winds- it usually blows during the spring and winter seasons, and are humid in nature. This air current brings rainfall.

West-east air currents- it blows during the season of autumn

Local winds- it is being developed

Hamadan being located nearby the Alvand mountains has a cold, mountainous climate, with freezing winters. It is probably one of the coldest cities in Iran. The temperature sometimes seen to dropped below -30 °C on the coldest days. During winter seasons the residents of Hamadan face heavy snowfall. Summer is comparatively short and during this time the city enjoys pleasant and sunny weather.

Hamadan has also been a home to many poets and cultural celebrities. It is best-known for handicrafts like leather and ceramic work as well as for wonderful carpets.
