Faroe Islands is situated in the center of the Gulf Stream in the North Atlantic Ocean and located to the northwest of Scotland. Faroe Islands consists of 18 islands in all. The history of the Faroe Islands dates back to the Irish monks who were the first settlers during the 17th century. After the Irish monks Faroe Islands was taken over by the Viking settlers who set up their own parliament in the place. The language of Faroe Islands is Faroese and the Faroese dance is quite famous for its special attributes like no instrumental help and the focus is mainly on the story and the song.

The most important festival of Faroe Islands is the holy Olav festival when the entire island population meets at Torshvan. The Faroese flag is taken by men on horseback with a colorful procession in front of them. The boat race which takes place is an important event of the festival.
