Belarus runs on the Republican system of government. The President of Belarus is considered as the head of the State, while the Prime Minister of Belarus heads the Government of Belarus. According to the Constitution, the lower house of the National Assembly should be comprised of 110-member House of Representatives, whereas the upper house needs to be comprised of 64 members of the Council of the Republic.
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial body in Belarus. The Government of Belarus runs on decentralization of power. To make decentralization effective, Belarus has been administratively subdivided into six provinces and one municipality.
The President is selected by the casting of votes by the people of Belarus. Any Belorussian above 18 years of age can cast his/her vote. Alexander Lukashenko was elected the President of Belarus in the last Presidential election in 2006. The Prime Minister of Belarus is elected by the House of Representatives.
The politics of Belarus is dominated mostly by three parties. There are 17 registered political parties in Belarus. The three major political parties of Belarus include:

- Agrarian Party of Belarus
- Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus
