The province comprises several districts namely Hai Hou, Nam Truc, Giao Thuy, My Loc, Vu Ban, Truc Ninh, Y Yen, Xuan Truong and Nghia Hung. The North Vietnam Plains of the Midlands is the region where the province is located. It is surrounded by several provinces like Ha Nam, Thai Binh and Ninh Binh, along with the East Sea. The climate of the region is pleasant enough and the average annual temperature of the province is around 23 degrees Celsius.
The province has a number of temples, shrines, pagodas and beaches, which make for some interesting sightseeing locations. These include the Con Ngan Bird Grounds, Hai Thinh Beach, Day Palace, and Con Lu. The economy of the province thrives on industry, agriculture and fisheries. Several rivers flow through the province namely Day, Red, Ninh Co and Dao. Nam Dinh has a coastline of 72 kilometers. These facilitate the development of agriculture in the region.
