There is, however, an initiative taken on part of the local government to educate the tribal people. They are striving to achieve a balance between their lifestyle and this new found enlightenment. Hoa Binh acts as an entry point to northwest Vietnam.
It is a small settlement on the foothills. Hoa Binh is also a popular tourist destination. It is very popular with trekkers and there is a specialized trekking center at Mai Chau. The Hoa Binh region is watered by a reservoir whose formation was the result of the construction of a dam on the Song Da River.
