Shahrisabz is a small and beautiful town in the south of Samarqand. Shahrisabz town has a very special historic value; it is the hometown of famous Timur. The former name of this town was Kesh.
Shahrisabz is considered as one of the most ancient cities in the central Asia. Alexander the great met his wife Roxanna here and spent his winter in this place.

As this town is the birth place of the great Timur, almost everything here is related to his name in one way or the other. Samarqand was the capital of Timur's empire and Shahrisabz, his hometown was considered as the second capital. Great architectural masters were sent here by Timur and they built wonderful buildings here. The Ak-Saray Palace is a fine example of the architectural brilliance of those craftsmen.
