Belarus Population

The Belarus population as per July 2007 report is 9,724,723. The population growth rate of Belarus is -0.41%. The birth rate is 9.5 births per 1,000 population. On the other hand, the death rate is 13.98 deaths per 1,000 population. The people belonging to the age group of 0-14 years consist of 14.7% of the total population of Belarus. Percentage of population falling between 15-64 years comprises 70.45% of the total Belarus demography. About 14.9% of the population comprises the age group of 65 years and above (as per 2007 report). The sex ratio in Belarus is 0.873 males per female. The infant mortality rate is 6.63 deaths per 1,000 live births.

About 81.2% in Belarus are Belarusian, 3.9% Polish, 11.4% Russians, 2.4% Ukrainians and 1.1% other ethnic communities (1999 report). Besides, 80% of the Belarus population belongs to the eastern orthodox Christian sect. About 20% include Protestant, Roman Catholic, Muslim and Jews (1997 data).

The languages spoken by most of the Belarus people are Belarusian and Russian. The literacy rate of the population of Belarus is 99.6%. The male literacy rate is 99.8%, whereas the female literacy rate is 99.4% (1999 data). Most people above 15 years of age can both read and write in Belarus.
