Qatar Royal Family is the most prestigious ruling body in Qatar. The Royal Family of Qatar has a long history, dating back to the early 18th century. The Royal Family belongs to the Al-Thani dynasty. Al-Thani is a sub-division of an Arab tribe called Tamim, who used to reside in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The dynasty's name, Al-Thani was kept after Thani bin Mohamed, the family's predecessor. Thani-bin Mohammad was the father of the first Al-Thani ruler, who had managed to extend his empire and ruling area over the entire Qatar Peninsula, during the mid-19th century.
Qatar Royal Family gradually grew and developed with time and made a place for themselves in the ruling body of Qatar. The ruling head of state makes a nomination of for selecting the next royal member. The Qatar Royal Family had several changes in their ruling system. Some of the names are as follows:
