Fielding is an important part of the game. There is no point in piling up runs or bowling accurately if the fielding is not upto the mark. The opponent team will easily reach their target, no matter how big it is. With the slides and dives coming into place, fielding has attained high standards in today's game.

  • Australian Ricky Ponting holds the record for the maximum number of catches at the World Cup. He has taken 18 catches so far.
  • Ricky Ponting also holds the record of taking the most number of catches at any particular World Cup. He took 11 catches from 11 games at the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
  • With four catches, Mohammed Kaif of India holds the record for the maximum catches in a match. He took four catches against Sri Lanka at the 2003 World Cup.
  • Adam Gilchrist has 25 dismissals against his name at the World Cup. This includes 23 catches and two stumpings. This performance of his at the World Cup has not been surpassed by anybody till now.
