One-Day Internationals are the more entertaining than tests from the spectators’ point of view. People throng the galleries to see the batsmen unleash those big hits over the fence. All in all as more runs are scored, people derive more enjoyment out of it.

Sri Lanka holds the record for scoring the maximum runs in a match at the World Cup. Incidentally, it is also a record in One-day International history. During the 1996 World Cup, they scored 398 for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs against Kenya at Kandy. The Sri Lankan batsmen made mincemeat of the Kenyan attack. They scored at a run rate of almost eight an over. Aravinda de Silva was the top scorer with 145 runs. Asanka Gurusinha and Roshan Mahanama scored half centuries. Almost all of them scored at a rate of more than a ball. The batsmen hit 43 boundaries and 14 sixes much to the delight of the spectators.

India holds the record for the second highest score in the World Cup. At the 1999 World Cup, they scored 373 against Sri Lanka at Taunton. Sourav Ganguly scored 183 runs in that match, which is the highest individual score for an Indian batsman. Here is a list of the top 10 highest scores at the World Cup.
