About Gibraltar
A British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar is situated on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. Gibraltar shares its border with Spain. The territory covers an area of 2.6 square miles. According to a 2015 estimate, Gibraltar has a population of 32,194.
The name Gibraltar has been derived from the Arabic word Jabal Tariq, which means Mountain of Tariq. The Mountain of Tariq refers to the Rock of Gibraltar and was named after Tariq ibn-Ziyad, an Umayyad general.

Gibraltar has two coasts (sides). The East Side comprises the settlements of Catalan Bay and the Sandy Bay. The other is the West Side where a majority of the territory's population resides. There are seven Major Residential Areas in Gibraltar. The Rock of Gibraltar, which is made of Jurassic limestone, has a height of 426 meters. There are also many tunnelled roads in Gibraltar; however, many of these are run by the military and hence are closed to the people.

Flag Of Gibraltar
The flag of Gibraltar is designed with two parallel bands wherein the upper portion is white. The upper portion is of double width in size in comparison to the bottom band which is red. A three-towered red castle is placed in the midst of the white band from where a golden key hangs to the center point of the red band.

The castle resembles the fortification of Gibraltar. The key denotes the significance of the fortress. The flag stands as a strong symbol of Gibraltarian sovereignty and independence.

Climate Of Gibraltar
Gibraltar has a subtropical Mediterranean climate. Here summers are warm, while winters are mild. Summers are generally dry; however, winters may witness rain. In Gibraltar, during the daytime, the annual average temperature is around 22°C. At night, the temperature is around 15°C.

Plants that are native to Gibraltar are palms, jacaranda, lavender, jasmine, clematis, honeysuckle, geraniums and bougainvillea. The territory is also home to some rare species such as Gibraltar Candytuft and Gibraltar Sea Lavender. Visitors can also catch sight of the flying fish and dolphins. Several migratory birds flock to the Gibraltar Rock during Spring and Autumn. Some birds that can be spotted in the territory include the Peregrine Falcons, Blue Rock Thrush, Barbary Partridge, harrier, hoopoe, buzzards and black kyte.

People of Gibraltar
The population of Gibraltar comprises of many European and economic migrants who came to the territory in the past 300 years and includes British, Spanish, Genoese and other Italian, Portuguese and Maltese. Other smaller populations include Austrians, French, Polish, Danish, Moroccans, Chinese and Japanese. The official language of Gibraltar is English. Christians comprise the majority of the population. Other religions are Islam, Hindu, Bahá'í Faith, and Jews.

Art, culture and music of Gibraltar
Art: Gibraltar is famous for its art exhibitions along with handicrafts made of fragile glassware, porcelain, pottery, leather wear, perfumes, spirits, jewelery, silks or cashmere. Here one would get high-quality goods at very competitive values.

Culture: The National Day in Gibraltar is celebrated September 10 every year. The day, which is a public holiday, witnesses people dressed in the national colors of white and red.
