About City
Ngerulmud is the capital of Palau and is located in the State of Melekeok.
The capital was established in 2006 replacing Koror, the country’s previous capital. It houses the country’s government offices and has a total population of around 400.

Sighted by the Europeans in the 16h century, the country was later influenced by British traders until Spain colonized the region in the 19th century. In 1899, after the Spanish-American War, Spain sold Palau to Germany who lost it to Japan during the World War I. Thereafter, Palau was added to the U.S. Trust Territory of Pacific Islands after the World War II.

In the year 1994, it established itself as an independent nation. English and Palauan are the prevalent languages here.

Located 20 km to the north of the old capital, Koror, it is situated on the central eastern coast of Babeldaob Island. Situated 2 km away from Melekeok Village, it covers a total area of 28 sq km. There are two mountains in the area, namely, Ngadebechal and Tochobei.
