The Canary Islands are a cluster of some 7 big islands; they are: Gran Canaria , Tenerife , Lanzarote , La Palma , La Gomera , El Hierro and Fuerteventura . However, there is a couple or more of smaller islands; they are: Graciosa , Alegranza , Roque del Este , Montaña Clara , Roque del Oeste, and Lobos . This archipelago of 7 islands and 6 islets took its name from the Latin term, “Insularia Canaria”, that signified the dogs (called: Canes) that inhabited it. “Insularia Canaria” means ‘Island of the Dogs’. The Greeks had also given it the epithet of ‘Happy islands’. All the seven islands in the collection are volcanic in origin. However, they are also all extinct. Being a volcanic terrain, it offers a lot in terms of plant, bird, animal and insect life.

Even the landscapes in the region are diverse yet exquisite. There are beaches, to begin with, and then there are mountains, forests, volcanoes and also deserts!

The climate prevailing in the Canary Islands is tropical in nature. You can reach the island both via air and ferry service. There are several places to visit and things to see within the island. Some of them are Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente , Teide National Park , Casa de Colón , Garajonay National Park and Timanfaya National Park . Eateries are dime a dozen around the Canary Islands. There are some good places serving up some really delectable stuff. A few of the names are: Portobello , El Boulevard , Luigi’s , Viking Huset , El Bar del Club , Blue Jeans Steak House , Restaurante Bali , Barbacoa and Balalaika .
