Located 20 miles from the coast of Rhode Island, of which it is a part, it lies in the Atlantic Ocean. The Block Island is named after the Dutchman who mapped it - Adriaen Block . The original people of the island, the Narragansett , called the island 'Manisses'. Unlike most islands which have a volcanic origin, the Block Island was born of glacial remains. The Block Island is beach all around. To put it closer, it is 17 miles of unlimited beach pleasure. The Block Island is also abundantly rich in both flora and fauna. The forests are dense.
