The Rwanda Prime Minister is committed to perform a wide range of duties. He is entrusted with the duty of co-ordinating the activities of the Cabinet, following the guidelines set by the President of Republic of Rwanda. The Prime Minister of Rwanda is enlisted with a host of duties which include:
- Distribute all the assigned duties and responsibilities to the Cabinet ministers, ministers of different states and the other ministers.
- Sign the orders for the appointment and promotion of junior officers of Rwanda Defense Force and National Police.
- Set all the programs of the government only after consulting with the other members of the Cabinet.
- Convoke meetings of the Cabinet, fixes the agenda of the Cabinet after consulting with the other members of the Cabinet and convey it to the President.
- Prime Minister at Rwanda is responsible for appointing the military and civil officers except those who are appointed by the President of the Republic of Rwanda.
- Prime Minister of Rwanda supports the laws enacted by the Parliament and proclaimed by the President of Republic of Rwanda.

- Sylvestre Nsanzimana (October 12, 1991 - April 2, 1992)
- Dismas Nsengiyaremye (April 2, 1992 - July 18, 1993)
- Agathe Uwilingiyimana (July 18, 1993 - April 7, 1994)
- Jean Kambanda (April 9, 1994 - July 19, 1994)
- Faustin Twagiramungu (July 19, 1994 - August 31, 1995)
- Pierre-Celestin Rwigema (August 31, 1995 - March 8, 2000)
- Bernard Makuza (March 8, 2000 - October 7, 2011)
- Pierre Habumuremyi (October 7, 2011 - present)
