The Cabinet of Namibia is made up of the President, the Namibia Prime Minister and other ministers. Appointed by the President the Prime Minister of Namibia performs a number of functions and duties. Along with the rest of the Cabinet members the Namibia Prime Minister is responsible for the efficient administration and execution of the governmental functions.
The Namibian Prime Minister serves as the leader of all the affairs of the government in the country's Parliament. It is the duty of the Prime Minister to organize the activities and functions of the Cabinet and also to advise and help the President in the exercise of his responsibilities and in executing the governmental functions. The Prime Minister in Namibia is assisted by the Deputy Prime Minister also appointed by the President of the country.
One of the chief responsibilities of Namibia Prime Minister is to answer all the questions he is asked during the Parliamentary sessions regarding his activities. Thus individual accountability is applied to the Prime Minister also along with the other members of the Cabinet. Confidentiality and consistency are two principal features that should be maintained by the Prime Minister. He should act according to the provisions given in the constitution of Namibia and respect it as the sovereign law of Namibia.
Namibia has had several Prime Ministers since its independence in 1990. The first Namibia Prime Minister was Hage Geingob who began office on March 21st, 1990 (the day of Namibian independence). He was succeeded by Theo-Ben Gurirab. The current Prime Minister of Namibia is Nahas Angula. All the three namibia Prime Ministers belong to the political party called SWAPO (South West Africa People's Organization).
