Cameroon Prime Minister

The Prime Minister is appointed as the head of the Cameroon Government officially by the President but he is absolutely powerless as all the powers are retained by the President of Cameroon. Surprisingly though, the Cameroon Prime Minister can be dismissed by the President according to his will. The Cameroon Prime Minister acts as just another cabinet member who has to follow the President's advice in every issue. Nevertheless, any of his decisions will only be passed or formulated with President's permission.

The position of Prime Minister in Cameroon came into existence in 1960 first in the eastern region of Cameroon when it gained its independence from France. Due to the parting of Cameroon into two regions: East and West, each region had its own Prime Minister. This autonomy was dissolved when Cameroon became an unitary state in 1972.

Paul Biya became the Prime Minister of Cameroon in the year 1975 and he continued being so until 1982, when he superseded Ahidgo and became the Cameroon President. He appointed Ephraim Inoni as the new Prime Minister of Cameroon.

The first ever Prime Ministers in Cameroon are:
  1. Ahmadou Ahidgo(1st January 1960 - 15th May 1960) – East Cameroon

  2. John Ngu Foncha(1st October 1961 - 13th May 1965) – West Cameroon

  3. Paul Biya(30th June 1975 - 6th November 1982) – United Cameroon
Ephraim Inoni is the current Prime Minister of Cameroon. He has been an efficient and longtime officer of Paul Biya and was also a member of the ruling Cameroon people's Democratic Movement (RDPC). Appointed by Paul Biya as the Prime Minister of Cameroon on December 8, 2004, this 7th Prime Minister of Cameroon had worked as a secretary for State Finances followed by Assistant Secretary General to the Presidency till his nomination as the Prime Minister of Cameroon. Ephraim Inoni have replaced the former Prime Minister of Cameroon Peter Mafany Musonge and still continuing to be so under the power of Paul Biya.
