Winter Olympics 2018: South Korea's Yun Sung-bin wins gold
 
Yun Sung-bin of South Korea has won gold in the men's skeleton. He claimed the second gold medal of the home nation. Nikita Tregubov from Russia, who was 1.63 seconds behind Yun, won silver and Dom Parsons of Great Britain won bronze. Yun became the first athlete from outside Europe and North America to win an Olympic sliding medal. After winning the medal Yun said it was a great honor to win the gold in his own home country.
 
Winter Olympics 2018: Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway wins Gold in Alpine skiing
 
Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway aged 35, became the oldest Olympic alpine skiing champion as he held off Kjetil Jansrud to win downhill gold. He finished just 0.12 seconds ahead of compatriot Jansrud. Beat Feuz of Switzerland won bronze as he finished 0.18 of a second behind Svindal. "It feels pretty good. I'm extremely happy," said Svindal after winning.
 
 
Mikaela Shiffrin wins giant slalom gold in Winter Olympics 2018
 
Mikaela Shiffrin, the American star, finished 0.39 seconds ahead of Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel and won gold in Pyeongchang, Korea. Ragnhild Mowinckel took the silver. Federica Brignone of Italy finished 0.46 later and won the bronze. She also became the first Italian woman in 16 years to win an alpine skiing medal in a race.

There is a certain pride in hosting the Winter Olympics and this year the Winter Olympics will be held in PyeongChang County, South Korea. The Winter Olympics will be held from February 9 to February 25, 2018. An estimated 90 nations would be participating in the tournament.

Athletes compete in fifteen different sports event that include Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross-country skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Free Style Skating, Ice Hockey, Nordic Combined, Short track speed skating, Luge, Skeleton, Sky jumping, Snowboarding, Speed Skating, and Bobsleigh.

89 teams from across the globe have qualified at least one athlete. In case Eritrea, Ecuador, Singapore, Kosovo, and Malaysia decide to participate, this would be their Winter Olympics debut. Two figure skaters from North Korea have qualified in the Winter Olympics. Thus athletes from North Korea will be permitted to cross the DMZ into the South. Due to the state-sponsored doping scandal, the status of Russia is unclear.

There is a certain pride in hosting the Winter Olympics and this year the Winter Olympics will be held at Sochi, a city on the Black Sea coast in Russia.

The Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held from 6th February to 23rd February, 2014. This event brings about 2,500+ athletes under one umbrella. Athletes compete in fourteen different sports event that include Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross-country skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Free Style Skating, Ice Hockey, Nordic Combined, Short track speed skating, Luge, Skeleton, Sky jumping, Snowboarding, and Speed Skating.

Athletes from Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, North Korea, Senegal, and South Africa participated in the 2010 games. However, they will not be participating in 2014 Winter Olympics. Indian athletes would be participating independently under the Olympic Flag due to a ban imposed on India.

Zimbabwe, Virgin-Islands, Toga, Tongo, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Phillipines, Paraguay, Malta and British Virgin Islands are the countries that will debut in this edition of Winter Olympics.

United Nations has the highest number of participating athletes with over 224 qualifiers. As a host nation Russia follows United Nations with 126 qualifiers.

Albania, Algeria, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Malta, Nepal, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, San Marino, Thailand, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Virgin-Island and Zimbabwe have one qualifier each.
