- Nazinon or The Red Volta – It has its origin near the city of Ouagadougou. Its stretch of 320 kilometers continues till it merges with the White Volta.
- Mouhoun or Black Volta – It originates in the western part of Burkina Faso. It has a stretch of 1,352 kilometers. Finally, it meets the White Volta in the country of Ghana. Mouhoun creates a border between Burkina Faso and Ghana.
