Belarus Rivers



Belarus is endowed with 20,800 rivers and streams. Belarus Rivers lie mainly in the basins of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Belarus Rivers serve various purposes like fishing,
water supply for irrigation and industry, hydropower generation and transport. The Dneiper, Neman and Western Dvina form the major rivers of Belarus.

Dneiper River is the largest river in Belarus. This river runs through Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and flows to the Black Sea. Dneiper River has a number of tributaries, some of which also lies in Belarus. Drut and Sozh the major tributaries of the Dneiper River also flow through Belarus. Majority of the country lies in the Basin of Dneiper River

Daugava or the Western Dvina rises in Russia flows through Belarus and empties itself into the Baltic Sea. There are three hydro electric plants on this river. Belarus is planning to build more hydro electric plants on this river.



Neman River rises in Belarus flows through Lithuania and drains itself into the Baltic Sea. This river is regarded as the third largest river of Belarus.
