Rionegro is a city as well as municipality in Antioquia Department, Colombia. Located in the sub-region of Eastern Antioquia, the city is known usually by its official name, "Ciudad Santiago de Arma de Rionegro". The name of the city has been originated from Negro River, which is considered as an important geographical feature of the municipality. During the period of Colombia's struggle for independence, this was among the most important cities.
As per 2005 census, the city has total population of 101,046 inhabitants, which makes it the fourth largest populated area in Antioquia. The city is the most important trade center in eastern Antioquia since many years. It is home to a professional football team Rionegro Aguilas.
