Sao Paulo, the most populous city in Brazil and the capital of the state of Sao Paulo, is located on a plateau of the Brazilian Highlands. This southeastern city lies about 220 miles (350 km) southwest of Rio de Janeiro and 30 miles (50 km) inland from the Atlantic Ocean port of Santos. On the southern fringes of the city lies the State Park Serra do Mar (part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
By Air: Guarulhos International Airport, located 25 miles from the city center, is served by Brazilian airlines and international airlines such as United, Delta, Air Canada, Alitalia, Emirates, Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa, Iberia, KLM, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, US Airways and many others. The Congonhas Airport, located 9 miles (15 km) from downtown, connect Sao Paulo with most of the cities in southern and southeastern Brazil.
By Road: Terminal Rodoviario do Tiete, arguably the second largest in the world, operates international buses. Travelers from Asuncion in Paraguay (20 hours), Buenos Aires (36 hours), Montevideo in Uruguay (30 hours) can directly reach Sao Paulo via bus.
