The earliest traces of Belarus history are found between the 6th and 8th centuries A.D. The Slavic people migrated to the present-day Belarus, Ukraine and Russia and expanded throughout the eastern part of Europe. The local Baltic people were already living in some parts of the land that the Slavs migrated to. There was thus the formation of a mixed culture in Belarus. According to the historians, the three Slavic tribes (Radzimians, Drehovians, Kryvians) and some Baltic tribes contributed largely to the formation of the modern Belorussian culture. A rich economy had always been a part of Belarus history. The earlier tribes in Belarus were engaged in profitable agricultural trade.
The success in trade continued even in the 9th and 10th centuries. But it has been recorded in the history of Belarus that there were many fights that disturbed the land and people of Belarus. The Belorussian rulers often engaged in fights with the Byzantine Empire. Christianity was slowly accepted by the people of Belarus.
The Belarus history saw the invasion of the Mongols in the 13th century. The Mongols defeated the princes of Belarus in the Battle of the Kalka River in 1223. The Belarus history records that there were more powerful attacks on Belarus by the Mongols under the leadership of Batu Khan in 1237. The Mongols then ruled over Belarus for nearly 200 years.
There have been many wars in the history of Belarus. Ultimately during the Second World War, Belarus was annexed by Soviet Union. In 1986, Belarus experienced the unfortunate nuclear fallout because of the accident of the Chernobyl nuclear plant.
