Bialowieza Forest Belarus



Bialowieza Forest, Belarus is considered to be the last European lowland forest. It lies between the borders of Poland and Belarus. Lying in close proximity to the Baltic Sea and Black Sea,
Bialowieza Forest, Belarus forest sprawls over a vast stretch of land. The forest is enriched with different types of flora and fauna. About 11,500 species of fauna and 4,500 species of fauna are found here. The list however goes on increasing with discovery of new species of flora and fauna every now and then. Bialowieza Forest is the habitat of rare species of mammals like wolf, otter and Lynx and European bison. UNESCO has recognized it as World Heritage Site due to the varied flora and fauna found here.

The forest mainly consists of evergreen and broad leaved trees. Bialowieza National Park has included some stretch of forests in Poland, whereas Biosphere Reserve occupies some space of the forest in Belarus. Belovezhskaya Pushcha on the Belarusian side has its head quarters at Kamieniuki. It includes a laboratory, zoo, a small museum, and a restaurant. Turning some portions into bio reserves and national forest was the only way to save the forest and wild life from human intervention of hunting and deforestation.



The forests are continental in nature with rainfall amounting to 620mm. The temperature varies between -4 to 18° C in the winter and summer months, respectively. Thousands of visitors come to this place to see the varied species of wildlife in their natural habitat.
