The President of Cameroon is the sole power in Cameroon Government. He is been entitled the authority to appoint and also dismiss all the government officials ranging from the Prime Minister who is considered to be the official head of the Government, to provincial governors, divisional officers and urban council members in large cities.
The Cameroon President is not only the head of the executive body but also controls the legislative and judiciary activities. For example, the Presidents appoints the judges at all levels though judiciary is known to be independent. The President of Cameroon is both the head of the state as well as the head of the government. He doesn't need to consult the National Assembly for any decisions.
The President of Cameroon is elected by popular votes after every seven years. Ahmadou Babatoura Ahidgo (24th August 1924 - 30th November 1989) was the first Cameroon President. He was elected president in 1960 when Cameroon gained independence and he continued his presidency until 1982 when he resigned. On 6th November 1982, Paul Biya was elected as the second president and immediately after his election he replaced some of the policies formulated by Ahidgo which forced Ahidgo leave Cameroon. Paul Biya was re-elected for many times but was strongly ripped off by the English speaking people of Cameroons who was under British colonialism for a long time.
The President of Cameroon is basically unilateral and he enjoys the authority to decide upon the polices, administer government agencies, control and instruct the military unit and discuss and sanction treaties. He is authorized to take any drastic action necessary in emergency cases. He is the all-in-all in the Cameroon Government and the main decision maker as well.
