SABC South Africa is considered as one of the international broadcasters which aims to uprise and sustain a good relationship with other broadcasters from all over the world.
The corporation is treated as South Africa's national broadcaster for public service as it provides an extensive chain of programs. The headquarter of the South African Broadcasting Corporation is at Johannesburg. The broadcasting corporation is also a member of different broadcasting organizations such as :

  • Commonwealth Broadcasting Association
  • Southern African Broadcasting Association
  • Public Broadcasting International
  • Union of National Radio & Television Organizations of Africa


The function of SABC South Africa is to entertain, educate, develop cultural education and ensure equal treatment of different cultural groups of South Africa. SABC South Africa also comprises of several small broadcasting bodies which provide a stage for boosting the aims of New Partnership for Africa's Development.

There are three domestic channels, which are broadcast by SABC South Africa :

  • SABC1 telecasts entertainment, news and sports.
  • SABC2 deals with local African programs
  • SABC3 airs dramas and comedies of the America and Britain.


There are eighteen stations which fall into the category of SABC’s national radio network. Amongst these, three are categorized into commercial broadcasting for the public and fifteen into public services. The television network of SABC consists of three free to air channels and one play TV channel.
