Rara Lake, situated in western Nepal's Mugu district, is the largest of the lakes at Nepal. This mountain lake spreads over about 1000 hectares approximately. Phewa, a mid-hill lake located at Pokhara, is also one of the famous Nepal lakes. Phoksundo, a mountain lake in Nepal's Dolpa district, is a less known lake of Nepal because of its location that makes approach to its vicinity difficult. Pokshundu Tal in the Dopla district is a mountain lake.
The lakes of the Langtang Himal region including Gosainkunda are considered sacred by the people and have religious significance. Some other popular mid-hill lakes around Nepal topography include Begnas Tal, Deepang Tal, Rupa Tal, Rokum Tal, Kailali and Mahadev Tal. Rupia Tal, Gadhbhijala Tal, Sakhunia Tal, Badhaiya Tal, Halkhoria Tal, Beesh Hazar Tal and Gaindhawa Tal are the low land lakes of Nepal.
The crystal clear water and the majestic scenic backdrop make a visit to the Nepal lakes pleasant and enjoyable. Fishing and boating are two activities that are commonly carried out on the water of the Nepal lakes.
