Monaco Railway

Monaco Railway through its well-connected lines has increased accessibility in Monaco. There is the presence in Monaco of only a single railway station. This station lies on the Nice-Menton-Ventimiglia line. Inaugurated in the year 1867 this Monaco Railway has played a very important role in the overall transport system of Monaco. The Monaco Monte Carlo (SNCF) railway station serves to link Monaco with France and Italy. As such this Monaco Railway Station serves as a stop for some international trains too. The railway line here has a total length of 1.7 kilometers.

The train service that exists in Monaco is run by the French operator SNCF. There is the absence in Monaco of its own Train service.

Some of the international trains that run through this station include:
  • Ligure linking Marseille and Milan
  • Train Bleu functioning between Paris and Vetimiglia
  • TGV which is a high speed train between Nice and Paris
Besides, Monaco Railway also has routes to other noted destinations too.

An underground railway line has also been set up to further improve Monaco transport system. The underground line covers a distance of 3 kilometers. The railway line has its beginning near the Cap d'Ail station and ends at the Sainte Devote valley. The finance of the entire project was borne by the Principality itself. The engineering part of the project was carried on by English, French and Italian companies. The setting up of this underground railway station has resulted in the saving of around four hectares of land.
