The Mountains of Jordan separate the Jordan Valley and its margins from the plains of the eastern desert. This region extends from western part of the country and hosts most of Jordan's main population centers, including Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Karak. Jordan Mountains are very popular sightseeing among the tourists of Jordan.

Features of Mountains of Jordan:

Mountains of Jordan receive Jordan's highest rainfall and is rich of vegetation. This region was known historically as the Land of Gilead and is characterised by higher elevations and cooler temperatures. South of Al-Jafr and east of the Rum Desert is characterised by isolated hills and low rocky mountains separated by broad sandy wadis. Tuwayyil ash Shihaq is the highest mountain of Jordan. Climbers and hikers are mostly attracted and visits the Mountains of Jordan every year.

Popular Mountains of Jordan:
  • Abarim – it is a mountain range across Jordan to the south-east of the Dead Sea. It extends from Mount Nebo in the north to the Arabian desert in the south.
  • Jebel al-Madhbah – it is a mountain in present day Jordan situated in the vicinity of Petra. This mountain is mentioned in the Bible as Mount Sinai.
  • Mount Nebo – it is an elevated ridge that is 817 meters high above the sea level. The view from the summit privides a panorama of the Holy Land of Jordan and River Jordan.
  • Jabal Ram – it is another famous mountain range in Jordan.
