Lakes of Cameroon mainly includes Lake Monoun, Lake Nyos and Lake Chad. Among this three lakes the first two have are known a killer lakes because of the explosions that took place in these places. Lake Chad is the major source of water for the settlement of Cameroon.
Some of the Lakes of Cameroon are
Lake Monoun: It lies in the Oku Volcanic field. It is located in the West Province of the country. It has got high concentration of carbon dioxide deep down the surface. On 15th August 1984 a limnic eruption occurred. In 2003 a venting pipe was inserted to into the Lake Monoun to prevent further explosion.
Lake Nyos: It is a crater lake located in the Northwest Province of the country. It is situated on the flank of an inactive volcano of the Oku volcanic plain. You can find magma beneath the lake. Other than Lake Monoun lake it is one of three lakes that has got huge concentration of carbon dioxide.
Lake Chad: It is located in the fringe of the Sahara Desert. It is the fourth largest lake of Africa. It used to occupy a large area. It is the major source of water for the surrounding settlement. This is a land locked lake with no outlet to the sea.
The beauty of Lakes of Cameroon are simply amazing. Other than being important source of economy these lake shave also developed as tourist destinations.
