Tochigi is one of the forty seven prefectures of Japan . Tochigi prefecture is situated within the region of Kanto and is located in the central part of the biggest island Honshu. Tochigi has six districts within it. These six districts again have many towns and cities and some of them are very famous for several reasons. Tochigi prefecture 's capital city i s Utsunomiya and has thirty three municipalities. Tochigi prefectur e has its own prefecture symbols . The Japanese horse chestnut tree and the blue and white Flycatcher bird are two of Tochigi's prefecture symbols.

There are several distinctive cities and towns in each of these districts . Some of the major and famous cities and towns in the Tochigi prefecture are, Nikko , Utsunomiya, Ashikaga, Nasukarasuyama, Sakura, Sano and many other cities. There are forty cities in Tochigi.
In Tochigi, Nikko is a famous city. Nikko city has been given the title of a World Heritage Site. This recognition by the UNESCO was given because of its ancient Shinto Shrines and many Buddhist temples. These shrines and temples are all very well preserved and draw innumerable visitors and travelers every year. From Japan 's capital Tokyo it takes about one hour to reach Nikko by train.
Another famous district or region in Tochigi is Nasu. Nasu is very popular in Japan for its several hot springs which is known as 'onsen' . There are several types of onsen like indoor and outdoor, municipality owned or privately owned onsens. These hot springs are a favorite destination among travelers of all ages seeking a rejuvenating holiday experience. Moreover, Nasu offers its visitors the delight of having 'sake' which is a sweet golden rice wine.
