Matsue is a Japanese city located in the prefecture of Shimane. Matsue is also known as the ‘ water city' as it is located on the side of Lake Shinji one of the biggest lake of Japan and the numerous canals which flow through the city. The name ‘ Matsue ' was kept after a water village of China. A natural marvel, the Nakaumi lagoon is located on the east of the city of Matsue . The medieval image and feel of a castle town is present in this city even today. Due to this, the city has evolved as one of the major tourist destinations in Japan. Tourists in Matsue make it a point to visit Izamu Taisha which is a very significant shrine of Japan. The city of Matsue was formed in 1889 and in 2005 the city expanded significantly.
The main point of attraction in Matsue is the ‘Matsue castle' which is also known as the plover castle. The location of the castle is all the more exotic and romantic as it is surrounded by bare forest of bamboo and shrubs. Apart from visiting the castles a trip around the city can give tremendous pleasure. Matsue is also famous for the tea festival which is held every year and it is for this that is also called the ‘city of tea ceremony'. Tea drinking is not only a commercial event but an integral part of the lives of the people of Matsue .
