Hachinohe city is located on the northeastern side of Japan. It has cold winters, however, Hachinohe receives less snow than the coastal areas of Japan Sea. During the rainy season also, the amount of precipitation is moderate. Unlike most parts of Japan, Hachinohe has a shorter summer season and usually escapes the high humidity and sweltering heat which is very common in Japan. The agricultural sector of Hachinohe suffers during summers due to cold east winds. The winter season however, offers generous amount of sunlight and only moderate amounts of snow and facilitates agricultural growth.
Hachinohe is located on a flat plain and extends upto the Pacific Ocean. Mabechi and Niida, the two rivers divide the plains into three roughly equal sections.
The designation of Hachinohe as a New Industrial City accelerated arrangement of its infrastructure, while the establishment of the Second Industrial Zone in the city promoted the growth of new companies within the city. Hachinohe High-Tech Industrial Park and Hachinohe Intelligent Plaza are being constructed in the city to promote further industrialization.
The city of Hachinohe hosts several local festivals like:
- Enburi
- Kabushima
- Hachinohe Port
- Hachinohe Sansha Taisai
- Chrysanthemum Festival and Chrysanthemum Doll Fair
The Tanesashi Coast and Kabushima Island are the two main tourist destinations of Hachinohe.
