The current Pakistani flag was effective from August 14, 1947 the day of its independence. In Urdu the Pakistan Flag is known as ‘Sabz Hilali Parcham'. The non Muslim population of the country is signified by the white part of the flag and the green part stands for Islam. The moon and the star signify progress and knowledge respectively.
