President of Eritrea, Isaias Afewerki is the first as well as the current president of the country. He was born in Asmara. Though he went to study engineering at Haile Selassie I University, in September 1966 Afewerki left his academic world and engaged himself with the forces that were then fighting for Eritrean independence during the mid 1960s.
After joining the Eritrean Liberation Front, in 1967 Isaias Afewerki went to China in order to train himself with Haile Woldense and Romedan Mohamed Nur. A year later, when he returned, he was made the political commissioner and Deputy Division Commander. However, soon he split from the ELF and enrolled his name in a small group of combatants.
Afterwards, this eminent figure of politics confederates himself with other two groups that were resulted from the splitting of the ELF- PLF1 party. Again, in 1975, Isaias split from Sabbe. In 1977, the group got its new name the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF), of which he became the Secretary General.
In 1993, after the independence of Eritrea finally this great personality was elected as the first president. In his first year of governance, he made some changes in the Eritrean institutions of administration. From an elected local judicial system to the expansion of the educational system all were included in this restructuring plan.
In the year 2002, in order to extenuate the effects of the prolonged stalemate with Ethiopia administration, the President introduced the Wefri Warsay Yika'alo in the country. It is basically an all-inclusive, revolutionary, national economic development plan in the backwash of the destructive Ethiopia War.
Isaias Afewerki is also regarded as one of Sudan's peace architects, since he has played an active role in the Sudan peace processes.
From the above discussion we can definitely say that Eritrea President, Isaias Afewerki is one of the most powerful and honored personalities of the country.
