President of Egypt

Egypt saw a massive public demonstration in 2011, following which the regime under Hosni Mubarak had to resign.
The people demanded a democratic government and large-scale reforms. When Mubarak stepped down, he handed over the power to Omar Suleiman, the then vice-preisdents.

Currently, however, there is no president of Egypt, as the country is set to elect the new government in January 2012. For the time being, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is heading the state under the leadership of Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, who is the chairman.
