Belarus Lakes



Belarus abounds in lakes, which makes it a picturesque country. There are around 11,000 lakes in Belarus, but, the majority of them are not more than 0.5 square kilometers.
Belarus lakes can be categorized into glacial lakes and flood plain lakes. The glacial lakes lie mainly to the northern part of Belarus while flood plain lakes are usually located in the Pripyat, Dnieper, and Sozh River basins.

Some of the major Belarus lakes include:
  • Braslau Lakes: Braslau, which lies in the north east of Belarus, includes a group of lakes. There are about 31 lakes in the cluster, which add to the beauty of the national park in close vicinity.
  • Lake Chervonoye: This is a major fresh water lake, which lies in Gomel Obast, southern part of Belarus.


    The depth of the lake is about four meters and is used for fishing.
  • Lake Druksiai: This Lake is located in Vitebsk Voblast, Belarus and in north east of Lithuania. The lake supports the Ignalina nuclear power plant. The average depth of the lake is about 7.6 meters.
  • Lake Narach: It is considered to be the largest lake in Belarus. It is located to the North-West Belarus and in the basin of the Vilija River. The lake spreads over 79.2 square km and the deepest point of the lake is about 25 km. The pine trees surrounding the lake add to the beauty of the place.
These lakes of Belarus are of great attractions to tourists. Many resorts have been built in the close vicinity of the lakes.
