National Parks in Uzbekistan



The National Parks in Uzbekistan are potential eco tourism spots. These National Parks are restricted biosphere reserves. They are natural habitat of many endemic and endangered plant and animal species. The biodiversity in these National Parks are amazing.

The two National Parks of Uzbekistan are the:
  • Ugam Chatkalsky National Park
  • Zaaminsky Peoples Park.

Ugam Chatkal National Park in Uzbekistan

The fascinating biosphere reserve is 80 kilometers from the capital city of Tashkent. The area was declared a National Park in the year 1947, and is recognized and one of the biggest and the oldest National Park in Uzbekistan. It is nestled in the picturesque foothills of Western Tien Shan. The beautiful Children's Ecological Reserve is located in this National Park. This is an excellent interaction and information center where the botanists, zoologists, geographers and forest and soil specialists study the ecological systems of the country.

Scientists have identified 44 species of mammals, 230 species of birds and 1168 species of animals and plants in this natural reserve. The river Pskem meanders through this area. The rare white claw bear is found in the higher altitudes of this river valley. Shan fox, red marmot the lynx, snow leopard can be seen here. The national park is also a habitat to the Siberian roe and the mountain goat. Colorful birds are abundant in this region. Magnificent scavengers like the golden eagles, bearded vulture and eagle vultures are common in the higher cliffs.

Another major tourist attraction in the Chatkal National Park is the rock paintings made by early settlers. These paintings depict hunting scenes and other interesting scenes from their everyday life.

The Zaaminsky People's Park in Uzbekistan is a relatively small National Park in Uzbekistan. It is located in the Djzak region adjacent to the Zaaminsky Zapovedenik.

The National Parks of Uzbekistan is an interesting abode for the eco tourism enthusiasts. First hand observation of the diverse flora and fauna can be experienced amidst the raw beauty of the wilderness.
