Important rivers in Georgia
Savannah, Chattahoochee, and Suwannee are the major rivers in Georgia. Chattahoochee and Savannah flow through northeastern Georgia. In central Georgia, Oconee and Ocmulgee are the main rivers. These rivers flow towards the Atlantic in east.
Suwannee flows in southwest Georgia. It heads to the Gulf of Mexico passing Florida and Okefenokee Swamp on its way. Chattahoochee is the longest river in Georgia stretching 436 miles.

Major Lakes in Georgia
There are two types of lakes in Georgia - man-made and natural. The major man-made lakes in the southern state include Lake Harding, Lake Seminole, Lake Sidney Lanier, West Point Reservoir and Walter F. George Reservoir. These lakes are located on the Chattahoochee River. The well known natural lakes of Georgia are Clark Hill Lake and Lake Hartwell.
The biggest lake in Georgia is Lake Lanier and the second longest lake is Lake Oconee. Lake Lanier covers 47 miles and is 26 miles long. The width of Lake Oconee is a mile and its length is 20 miles.
