The current version of the Georgia Flag bases itself on the 1st national Confederacy flag, with stars and bars. The description of the Georgia State Flag is as follows.

It is adorned with two horizontal red stripes of the same width, separated by a white stripe. In the top left corner is a blue square bearing the golden Georgia coat of arms. This Georgia State Flag seal has three pillars supporting an arch. They stand for the three wings of the government: the executive, legislative, and judiciary. There is also a man brandishing a sword, who is said to guard the Constitution that teaches the principle of justice, wisdom, and moderation. On top of the emblem are the words, “In God We Trust.” Surrounding the emblem are 13 white stars that suggest that Georgia was one of the first colonies of the US.

Georgia Flag History

The history of the Georgia State Flag reveals the presence of many flags that flew in the state. Each time the colors, symbols, and patterns of the Georgia State Flag were altered. From 1956 to 2001, the Georgia State Flag differed from the current one. There were two fields, one bearing the emblem and the other a blue cross with stars. Between 2001 and 2003, the Georgia State Flag had a blue field with the emblem in the center. A ribbon below it bore the five different flags of the US and Georgia. The Georgia Flag is a perfect example, denoting the effects of historical events on the various state symbols.
