Capital of Nicaragua

Managua, the capital of Nicaragua is the core of the country. With a population of 1,000,000 inhabitants, it rises on the south bank of the lake Managua and the city stretches south for more than 20 kilometers alongside the lake until Sierra de Managua. The city is 50 meters above the sea level. Temperatures are moderate throughout the year, ranging between 28-32 degrees centigrade. March and April are the hottest months whereas, December and January are the cooler months.

Managua is known as the 'land of lakes, volcanoes and lagoons'. Managua in the Nauhatl language, means "where there's an extension of water". It was named so because of the many lakes and lagoons in the vicinity of the city. Managua has acquired the status of a city, from a small village. The twin cities Granada and Leon were vying for the title of capital city but, Managua was made the capital as a solution to this dispute.

Managua has retained the feel of a rural capital. More than once it has been subjected to the wrath of the seismic forces. Much effort hasn't been made to restore the original Managua. The city is remains obscure from the neighboring hill as there are no tall buildings and it is covered by a dense canopy of green vegetation.

Managua the capital of Nicaragua is the pulsating commercial hub. Head offices of different institutions, big commercial centers, major artistic references as well as the head of Government are seated in Managua.

Tourist attractions in Managua are plenty. The original architecture of Managua was driven to ruins by the horrific earthquakes. However, the National Palace of Culture, the Central Park, Tiscapa Hill Historical Park, Park of Peace, National Theater Ruben Dario, the new Metoropolitan Cathedral are places which the tourists visit on their tour to Nicaragua. Acahualinca foot prints museum is unique as it contains exhibits of footprints of animals who have tried to escape the volcano eruption between 6,000 to 10,000 years ago. The Lake Managua lends it a perspective of a port city.

Managua, is a friendly city with easy going people, welcoming everyone to their capital city. Chaotic urbanization, after the earthquake is responsible for the uneven development in the city. In spite being subjected to numerous civil wars, upheavals and natural calamities, Managua is a city with vibrant life ready to take on the future its own stride.
