Football in Malawi

There are many sports in Malawi that are quite popular with the people. Of these football in Malawi is one of the most known and is played by the people at all levels beginning from boys in school. In fact so much loved is football in Malawi that there is the presence of a national football team in Malawi too.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is the body that is responsible for looking into all matters with regard to football in Malawi. The association had its beginning in the year 1966. This association in Malawi is also linked with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), FIFA and COSAFA.

The running of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM ) is through the funds received from the government. Besides, the association also organizes its own activities that aim at raising funds. There are many other bodies too that are associated with the Football Association. These include Super League of Malawi (SULOM), Coaches Association of Malawi, and Referees Association of Malawi.

A number of projects have been taken up in Malawi with the intention of bringing about certain developments in the sphere of Malawi football. Of these, one of the noted one is the FIFA gold project in Chiwembe that has been undertaken with the goal of providing the Football Association of Malawi with the basic infrastructure that would lead to the development of this game in the country of Malawi. Sepp Blatter was the one to take up this project for the first time.

The Global Project has been very beneficial for football in Malawi since it has led to the development of the Technical Development Center.
