Religion in Japan have been immensely influenced from other Asian religions, especially those by the way of China and Korea. As a result, the most eminent religions in Japan are ‘Shinto' and ‘Buddhism'. The array of religions also includes Confucianism, Islam and Christianity.
Confucianism: Confucianism is regarded as one of the three best known conventional Chinese religions. As mentioned in early Japanese history, this religious conviction was brought in to Japan in the year 285 AD. A few of the most significant aspects impressed by the Confucian way of life are; Devotion, Humanity, Compassion, Ethics and Contemplation; on an individual as well as on a social level. Its influence is still extremely strong on Japanese society.
Shinto: This is stands for "the way of the gods". Shinto is the indigenous conviction of the Japanese people from ancient era. This is considered as Japan's most famous religion after Buddhism. Though the religion of Shinto is intensely deep-rooted with other local religious traditions, this religion does not integrate any sacred writings. ‘Shinto Gods' are known as ‘Kami'. Shinto shrines are the places of worship and the abodes of the ‘kami'.
At present, Religion does not perform a great role in the daily life of the Japanese . Generally, the majority of the population observes the religious and sacred rites at ceremonial occasions like births, marriages and funerals and while celebrating regional festivals which have a religious theme.
