According to the 1961 Venezuela constitution, the person elected as the president should be a Venezuelan national by birth. The president of Venezuela should be at least thirty years of age. He is elected through the adult suffrage by a plurality vote and serves for a period of five years. The acting president cannot be re elected for the next ten years. Carlos Andres Perez was the first president of Venezuela and to have served two terms: from 1974 to 1979 and from 1988 to 1993.
